Last day in this strange, strange land...

My plane doesn't leave until midnight, but my tournament playing is done for this trip. Total count: Six tournaments played, two cashes, one final table. Not a bad run at all.

Considering many of my friends are currently down significantly at the wsop, it's nice to leave ahead. Should also make it a little easier to convince Kim that a return trip is a good idea. :)

I said it last year, and I'll say it again - the concept of coming here with Kim appeals to me, but I don't know how that would work out. We'd have to go with a group, so that she's not sitting around waiting for me to bust out of a tourney. Hard to book a show if we don't know if I can go...

Coming with a group, however, could be a lot of fun...

So today's plan should involve:
- picking up a few souveniers
- check out the Venetian $2000 event - see who's there
- head over to the Rio and sweat the 25k event
- have a nice dinner
- play some low limit cash
- head to the airport

It's going to be a long night - my flight leaves at midnight, then Kim's dad picks me up at the airport and we drive to Kirkland Lake - a seven hour drive. Can't say I'm looking forwards to that... Small price to pay, though, it's been a good trip...

Busto

77 lost to TT and QJ.

.

quad aces at my table

Some guy just hit quads and took a picture of the table. Me thinks the table is soft.

If only I could get some cards to capitalize on it.

.

15k at the break

Going into 200/400/25

.

Small world

At the table with a guy from 2+2 who I've escrowed prop bets for - slowcheetah1. Small world...
.

Playing the venetian 2nd chance tourney

First tourney where I've had 100% of my action. Would be a good one to win. :)
.

Busto and slowrolled!

KQ lost to AQ on a queen high flop, old guy slowrolled the winning hand. So my streak ends at two. Not sure what the planis tonight yet.
.

Spewing chips

Down to 11k - good starting hands / spots, but nothing coming of 'em.
.

Lost one

QQ lost to KK, all in pre. Down to 12k or so.

Against an old guy - should have known... :)
.

26k at break

Started with 15, blinds going to 100/200/25 when we get back.

.

I love live poker

Old guy at my table just flipped over the winning hand - the king high flush - on a paired board. He was very excited to say that he had the nuts. He corrected himself that he had the "nut draw".

The nuts means the best possible hand, based on the board..

Maybe in his home game, a flush beats quads and full boats. :)

Very soft table, up to 17k. Just picking my spots.
.

You know you're in Vegas when...

You reach into a pocket of your bag to get a kleenex, and find three $100 bills.

It's a different world...

.

Poker players vs regular folks

I have received quite a few emails / txt's etc from people congratulating me on my finish yesterday. It's funny comparing the ones from my poker playing friends to my non-poker playing ones:

Typical message from regular folks: 7th place? Awesome! Congrats! You must be psyched!

Typical message from poker playing folks: sorry bro, but good game. Keep your head up - you'll do better next time.

The mentality really is that there's only one guy per tournament who doesn't "lose".

The plan today is pretty low key - I'm going to head over to the rio after I finish my brunch, probably play the $200, and hang out with some guys there. (Need to give my backers their cut too - they're pretty pleased with the results, obviously).

If I bust early I may play the 2nd chance at the Venetian, or just hang out at the rio and play some SnG's or cash.

Spoke with Allison last night - she was pretty excited to hear my voice... So I suspect the flight / drive to Kirkland Lake is going to be especially long. I didn't plan it really well - I leave late on Wednesday, but the timing is such that I can't really play a tourney. So I'm not sure yet what the plan will be tomorrow.

Busto in 7th.

My tens just lost to aces, all in pre flop against the chip leader who was in a good spot to be making a move. :(

After taxes, 7th was good for $5,011 (Original payout was $7,159)

.

Just doubled a shorty

Lost a race - AK lost to pocket 5's, down to 600k. On a 30 min break.
.

The old guy's always got it

That's the number one rule of live poker. Ignoring it busted me in the $1500 event. I will not ignore it here... (The old guy across from me has proven it three times so far. If he's in, he's got a hand...)

I'm down to 840k - exactly average.
.

Letting others have fun

I'm somewhat card dead, and the table's pretty active. Waiting for some cards. Still 8 left - some of the short stacks have doubled up.
.

Down to 8

Three old guys at my table, two are short.

.

WAN MIRRION!!!

I just counted, I have one million chips. Avg is 750k

.

FINAL TABLE!

I busted somebody with 66 > A7, and somebody busted out at the other table. Down to 9.
.

580k with 12 left

Next stop is the final table...
.

Hovering at average stack

13 left, I have exactly average stack (520k)

Next one busts and there's a pay jump.
.

Down to 15

Next pay jump is at 12.
.

1st break - 17 left

I have about 500k, avg is about 400. Going to be pretty swingy based on the blinds and stacks - should be a wild ride.
.

Down to 18

New table, I have 475, avg stack is 375. Blinds are going up to 6k/12k/2k in five mins.

18th pays $2089, next jump at 15. That said, the "big" money isn't until the final table.
.

Lost a monster

Down to avg stack after my fours didn't win against kings.

Have 400+, avg is 355. 19 players left.
.

Already down to 23 players

Played a few small pots since busting that guy, at abbout 650k
.

Up to 560

AA busted a shorty.
.

Shuffle up and deal!

And we're off...
.

Restart in 10 mins.

Official word is this - 32 players left, I'm 3rd in chips.

Chip leader has 558, number two has 473, I have 458.

4th has 363.

Let us gogogogogogo!!!!
.

Cash for Steve too...

Steve ended up busting 14th in his tourney, good for just over 1k. He's pretty pumped too...

Another day two...

458,000 to end the night. Chip leader has around 500k.

We restart tomorrow at four, 34 players left.

I'm 2 for 4 this trip in cashes. I guess I made a good choice in playing this one instead of the $1,000 wsop. :)
.

Lost a big one then won one

QQ just lost to KK blind v blind, dropping down to 320 or so. Then I rivered a flush to bust a decent stack, I'm on 450k right now.
.

Lost a pot AK lost to QQ

Hit my ace, but he hit a flush. Down to about $420k. Avg is 178, 38 people left. We break in 30 mins for the night.
.

Steve update - 14 players left

Steve's having an amazing run - there are 14 players left in his tourney and he's got 300k. No idea what the blinds are, but he's guaranteed $1000.
.

Cash number two

Money bubble just burst, I've got about 400k. We play for another hour or so, then we break for the night.
.

Hand for hand with a big stack

360k or so.

Had 400+, but lost a race when 77 lost to KK

I'm waiting for an update from steve, last I heard he's guaranteed $700.
.

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Steve's in the money!

Go go go go go!!!!
.

Another monster

Nut flush beats king high flop, for huge pot - 350k. Prob chip leader right now. 70 left, acg stack is 96k

Weeeeee!
.

More news from steve

He's up to 190k in his tourney with 100 left. (Top 54 paid)
.

150k at dinner

One hour dinner break, I have 150k, about 3 times the avg stack. 150 people are left, with 45 getting paid.

Amazing difference between this structure and the WSOP tourneys - 40 minute levels (compared to 1 hour) at wsop is pretty significant.

Grabbing a bite with shaun, and hope to be blogging until late tonight.
.

Busted a big stack

Up to 140k when I busted a big stack while in the BB.

I had T5 hearts, SB raised (he's been raising a crap-tonne), I called. Flop comes 234, two hearts. Raise, call. Turn comes a black 8. Bet call, river comes a lovely ace. He bets, I push, he calls with 92 - bottom pair.

He seemed so decent too :)
.

63k at break

Going into 500/1000/100, avg is 34k

Some hands include AK holding twice, once to bust a pretty good stack.
.

60k

Winning some flips...
.

Down to 25

Doubled a shorty - 99 lost to AA
.

Steve update...

Steve's playing the rio deep stacks tourney, he just asked me to post this:

Doubled up...folded around 2 me in the small...8s raise 3x...bb pushes all in w a2 os...he had been reckless so i didnt take long 2 call...32100 at the break

.

Doubled up

AK > QQ - doubled through to 30k - right about average.

There's a spazzy brazillian to my right with a huge stack, would be nice to get some of his chips...

.

Card dead at an aggressive table

Crazy stuff, no chances to steal, no cards to attempt a resteal. Down to 11k.
.

22 levels, no pair higher than 8's

I played the whole tourney on wednesday, and 6 levels so far today, and the highest pocket pair I've seen are 8's. (At the Venetian, I mean...)

Hope that changes soon...

I'm on 16k, blinds are 200/400/50. Avg stack is about 23k.
.

450 runners

1st pays 50k, 45th is $1100
.

14k at first break

No hands of note, started with 15k.
.

Venetian $560 today

Steve and I just had brunch at Bouchon with Jimmy "Gobbo" Fricke and Jeremiah "Dantes" DeGrief - tasty tasty. Steve and I lost credit card roulette, so it was on us. Don't worry, Kim, it was breakfast, not dinner with bottles of Petrus.

We just started the $560 at the V, decided to play here instead of the 1k at the wsop. Now that I'm even in wsop events, figure I'll try to even up at the Venetian. :)

Some details...

Back at the room now... Here's how I busted:

I'm under the gun with AA, I raise. Folds around to the BB - an old guy who's been very (very) tight the whole time we've played together - who calls my preflop raise.

Flop comes JJ5, he checks, I bet, he check-raises me.

I figure, based on his play, that the only Jack he could have is AJ based on how tight he's been playing, and I've got 2 of the aces. Figure he's got kings, maybe queens. I push, insta calls with QJo.

Turn and river don't help, I'm down to 7k in the BB (which is now 3k). So I push my last 4k in with the monster 72o, and bust 145th.

Busto in 145th

Good for $3800.

AA lost to QJ - flop came with two jacks. I didn't put him on QJ, obviously, based on him calling a fairly healthy preflop raise.

144th would have paid about $500 more, unfortunately.
.

Dinner break

We're taking our dinner break, I have 56k, average is about 76k. Was completely card dead for the past two levels, just keep grinding my way through. Need a good opportunity to double up, but I have enough to bide my time.

I believe the blinds are going to be 1500/3000/400, but I could be wrong - I don't have the list here.

151 people left, current payout is 3800
At 144 it jumps to 4400, then at 99 it goes to 5k.

.

37k at break

No cards, stole a few times to steal the blinds, but not enough to stay where I started. About 240 left, I'm good for either $3000 or $3500 so far - the board is not accurate.

No hands of note to report - hope to be able to report again at the next break. (I can't use my bbry at the tables now that we are in the money)
.

ITM

In the money...

Weee!
.

Some hands:

Resteal with JJ - up to 47k

Called a raise with 77 in the BB, raised flop (open ended straight draw), he folded. Up to 50k.

We are now hand for hand, meaning we're right on the bubble.

.

Love the bubble

Just saw somebody laydown kings preflop. A guy shoved after a raise and re-raise. He showed 9T suited. Kings is a little steamy.

I'm down to 42k after a steal gone bad and the blinds.

.

Before the break last night

In my excitement I didn't post the hands that got me from 32k to 46k:

1) I have A8 spades (on the button, I believe), aggressive player raises it to 2200 in mid/late position, I call. Flop comes with two spades and an Ace, he bets again (~4k), I push. He tanks, asking me if I'll show if he folds, etc, etc. He lays it down, tells me he had Kings.

2) We have 5 hands to go before we break for the night, I have Aces and raise, a French guy re-raises me to about 4k, I push, he folds.

Hand number two could have gone differently, I probably should have called the re-raise and then bet the flop.

Still waiting for details on the table today - there are some fairly big names left, I'm hoping not to run into too many of them.

You know you're in vegas when....

You see a live taping of the TV show COPS.

Seriously.

They were arresting a guy on the strip, cameras following along. Some strange stuff in this city...

.

Day Two!!!

We just broke for the night - I have an above average stack going into day two.

My goal with the trip was to make at least one day two, glad to have it happen with my biggest tourney.

To say that I'm excited about tomorrow is an understatement.

Restart at 2:30pm, amazon 361, seat 6, with 46,600 chips.

Next step, day three.
.

Table is crazy aggressive

This new table is really aggressive, and I'm getting nothing to work with. Hope it changes soon. Still on 32k or so, 443 people left.
.

New table, still on 32k

Avg stack is 28k, 490 people left. About an hour and 15 mins before we break for the night.

We've been breaking 20 tables per level... That's a lot...

.

32k at break

600 left, avg stack is 24k.

That was a wild, wild couple of levels.

.

AA>KK to double again

Up to 33k, ten mins from next break.
.

Doubled up

A7>66, all in pre flop.

I have 15k now
.

Doubled up to 10k

AA when you look miserable from losing with KK is easy to get a call with.
.

Lost most of it... :(

KK lost to a turned heart flush, money went all in on the flop.

He had AJ hearts.

Down to 4k. :(
.

Level 8

16k - blinds are 300/600/75.

Back to needing some cards.

.

Todd terry - nevermind

Somebody just called him Mike...
.

Down to 17k

Doubled a short stack, my A8 lost to a turned flush (he had QT of diamonds)

.

Todd Terry at my table?

Question for the 2+2'ers reading - I think TT is at my table. Anybody able to email me a picture of him? My data plan's not working for some reason, I can't do a google search.
.

Back from dinner

Got involved with a few small pots that I had to fold on the flop (JJ on an AQ hearts board), etc. 22k
.

At the break

I have 24k, there are 968 of 3097 runners left, average stack is 14,397. So I'm looking good for now.

330 are paid, odds are there will be about 400 left when they break for the night, which will be in four levels.

.

24k

Sucked out once again, my TT over QQ (T on the river this time). That moved me to 17k. (I'm not actually happy about this hand, player to my right raised to 750, I raised to 2100, he pushed. Folding would have left me with 5k, pkenty. I convinced myself he could have AK and we would be racing.)

Three hands later I busted a shorty AK>JJ, all in preflop.

Dinner's in 3 mins.
.

New table

This one seems tougher. Deep stacks all around. 150/300/25 right now, 50 mins until dinner break.
.

First cash of the trip...

Steve just busted out of his tourney, so I won the $20 last longer :)
.

9k now

Blind vs blind battle, not sure how my pair of 9's won, but I took a few off of the SB.

Sitting above avg now.
.

Prize pool announced

3097 runners, 324 paid

1st prize is $720,000
324th pays $2,801

.

Better to be lucky than good

My 88 beat QQ to more than double to 6500. (Set on the flop)
.

3750 going into the break

100/200/25 when we come back. Got some hands , bur no action on them... Hope I can pick something up next level.

(And yes, I'm having a blast)
.

Owned at the table...

Having a nice chat at the table about where everybody's from, and a guy from denver asks, in all seriousness, "can I ask you something? Why do people from toronto drink from mugs?"

I tell him that I really don't know why they're called mugs.

His response: "actually, it's because all of the CUPS are in Montreal!"

Sigh... Walked right into that one...

.

Back up to starting stack

Flopped the nut flush. Bet too much on the flop and scared them off, so didn't get much action, but brought me back to 4500. (30 mins left at 100/200, then we go on break)
.

Table break

Moved to a new table - yellow 124, seat 4
.

Down to 3500

Lost a small pot, and getting my blinds regulalry stolen. Down to 3500 chips.
.

Aces going around the table.

I haven't done a thing, but am a serious short stack as compared to the rest of my table. Somebody's had aces about 8 times since break, received action each time... Some 20k stacks at the table right now...

.

Card dead at an aggressive table

There have been six all-in bets since the break. I could use a big hand...

.

~3100 runners...

Blinds are 75/150 for an hour, then 100/200

No word on payouts yet, probably in about an hour.
.

Table break before our break

Have exactly starting stack going into the 1st break. Was up to 5k, lost a small pot to bring me down to 4500

Table 62, seat 2
.

Allison in the pot - Nate wins the prize!

Thanks Nate....

.

Allison in the pot - need help!

I need somebody to go on facebook, find the picture of allison in my big stockpot and email it to me to my home (gke.on.ca) address.

First person to do so is considered a hero.

.

3 for 3 with pros at my table

Maridu just sat down in the ten seat. So three tourneys, three pros at my table. Maybe Bakes will stop by...

Deeb's at the table to my right too, chatting up a storm.
.

Shuffle up and deal!

We're about to start up the $1500 event. 4500 chips to start, 25/50 is the first one hour level.

Hey - have have an average stack! :)

Steve's playing the deep stacked tourney that starts in an hour (the same one I played yesterday.). Made the worst value bet ever with him - $20 on which one of us can last longer. (Seeing as he starts with 10k more chips and an hour later, this may not be a good bet :)

We're off - gl me!

.

You know you're in vegas when...

It's after midnight, and a man walks down the street with his wife, holding a yard-stick sized mixed drink in one hand and his 4 year old daughter in the other, accepting a "hooker card" from one of the hispanics on the strip.

Allison, I've done some unorthodox things while raising you. Putting you in my stock pot, encouraging your love of espresso, etc, etc. I make a solem vow that you will remain in the hotel room while we're on vacation and I'm out drinking being solicited by prostitutes.

Vegas. It's like a regular city on cocaine. And as Rick James says, cocaine's a hell of a drug.

Del Toro

Off for a nice steak to celebrate shaun's 40th bday... No more poker tonight, unless the drunken 1-5 limit game at O'Shea's beckons.
.

Busto

AA lost to a flopped set of 3s. Got it in on the turn.
.

Not such a deep stack tourney anymore

Blinds are going from 400/800/100 to 600/1200/100 - that's a big jump.

I have 29k, right about average, but with these blinds it's going to get a little crazy.

At a new table - lots of chips here.
.

34k at 2nd break

Blinds are 400/800/100, about 450 of 663 left, avg stack is about 21k
.

Payouts announced

63 paid - 63rd gets $360, 1st gets $25k

Still on 30k at 150/300/25.
.

1st break

Sitting on 30k at the break, blinds are 100/200/25

663 runners, top 63 pay. Still not sure what the payouts will be.

Steve's running around the rio, taking pictures of the pros who are still playing the 10k HORSE tourney. He decided not to play today, save it for when he's not so tired.
.

Lost a small one

On the button with QhTh, four people call the blinds, so I call. Flop comes with two hearts, checks to me, I bet 650. Sb check raises me to 1700, I let it go.

Sitting on exactly 30k, blinds are 100/200

.

Aces again

Won a small pot with them, right after losing a small pot with a drawy hand. 31k
.

Better today

First three hands:
- AJ - I win a small pot on the flop
- AA - I win a decent (5k) pot on the flop
- QQ - I bust the person who gave me the 5k previously, she had AQ - all in pre flop.

Up to 32k already - started at 15k. :)

.

Registered for today and tomorrw

Busto

About 4 mins before dinner, I look down at AK. Raise it up to 3200 (blinds are 600/1200/100). I can't remember if he was BB or the button, but he pushed for a similar stack to mine, I instacall. He has QQ, they hold up, I'm down to exactly $100.

Chip and a chair? not so much. I'm forced all in by the $100 ante, my T4 doesn't hold up against KJ (especially based on the Full House he hit on the river).

So I'm out, but realistically I can't be upset - I got nothing by way of cards all day - my best hands were:
AK - once - I lost
AQ - twice - once they held up (villain folded to my push), the other time I lost the flip.
AJ - once - the hand I mentioned where I made a good fold
AT - twice - doubled up both times with 'em.

I had no pocket pairs higher than 8's, and I didn't actually play any of them.

So running completely card-dead, I still managed to last until the dinner break, and had that last hand gone the other way, I would have had an average stack.

Instead I'm going to go grab a bite to eat. Shaun's arriving at about 11:00, so we'll meet up and figure out what's next on the agenda.

Dropping a bit

Card dead is dangerous at these levels. Sitting on 22k at 600/1200/100. Just not getting anything to play with. Dinner in 25 mins, we'll see what happens....
.

Lost one

AJ, folded on turn on a QT29 board. Villain (who's actually a pokerstars team online player - Carlos Lopez, I think is his name) showed me KJ (with a heart draw).

Down to 22k

.

AT>KK

Better to be lucky than good, up to 30k
.

14k at the break

Going into 500/1000/100 next. If I don't double up soon, I'm in trouble. Dinner break is in about an hour, don't really want to go for an hour break as a rediculous short stack. Going into push/fold mode shortly.

On another note, it's really (really) hot outside. And whoever believes that "it's a dry heat, so it's not so bad" needs a kick in the stones...
.

Doubled up, then gave a bunch back

AT>A6 on a diamond flush board..

Not sure if I played it perfectly, but I just didn't believe he had it on the river, and folding would have left me with 5k.

Next hand I lost 8k when my AQ lost to 55 to a shorty who was pushing every other hand.

Sitting on 14k

.

2nd break - still have starting stack

Crazy - no wild swings, just steadily stealing blinds and staying afloat. Going into 300/600/50 with 12k. Average stack is 20k

Also, I'm hearing some random news about an earthquake in Toronto... Anybody able to email / txt me some info?

.

Prize pool

536 runners (350 left).
54 places paid, 1st gets $36k, 54th gets $667
.

Any face cards in the deck?

I need something playable soon. Sitting on 11k with the blinds about to hit 200/400/50.

28 BB's, but antes make it pricy.
.

Up to starting stack at the break

Have 12,500, we started at 12k. We'll be at 100/200/25 after the break.

Only one hand of note, I'm in the BB with KhJd. UTG* raises to 600, two people call. So there's 2000+ in the pot, costing me 400 to call.

Flop comes KA7 with two spades. I'm done with the hand - I have no spade, no ace. Checks around, turn brings another spade. Check around. River brings a fourth spade - again checks around. My sole red king is good. :)

(UTG - not in the glossary - the player "under the gun", the very first player to act pre flop, sitting to the left of the BB)
.

Just shy of starting stack

Not much to report - a few small pots won and lost. I have about 10,500, we started with 12k. Blinds are 100/200.

Haven't played a hand in 30 mins, but if I'm going to go card dead, let's do it when the blinds are small.
.

Shuffle up and deal...

My vacation just started - cards are in the air.
.

You know you're in Vegas when...

(First in a series)

...you spend six bucks for soup and a bagel, and are genuinely pleased that you found a "good deal" for lunch

Vegas at 6:30 am

After a pretty bumpy (but otherwise uneventful) flight, I'm here. The good folks at the Venetian upgraded us to the Palazzo, so we're off to a good start.

We'll see how long Allison's wake-up conditioning lasts, but this morning I was wide awake at 7:30. Wouldn't be so bad, but it was 7:30 eastern, and I'm out west...

So we find ourselves walking around the casino in search of breakfast at 6:30 am. Here's what you see at 6:30 am in vegas:
- senior citizens
- convention delegates
- families with small children
- people who have gone hard - all night long
- a few people fighting jetlag
I can't say I've ever really seen the "early morning" vegas - I rarely end up in any of the above categories.

Today's plan has me playing the noon tourney at the Venetian - the $350 buyin - and shaun arrives at some point tonight. So either I'm still playing when he gets here, or we go out and tear it up.

Steve's booked

Arrives Thursday morning.

Happy that he's coming, but I'm thinking that Shaun + Steve + Vegas = Disaster.

Should be fun to be a spectator, though...

Poker 101

Last year, when I got back from my WSOP trip, my father informed me that he “dutifully followed my blog updates faithfully, even though he didn’t understand a word of them”.

So, for my non-poker-playing friends and followers, here is a (relatively) brief tutorial / glossary.

Texas Hold’em: the game that I will mostly be playing. At it’s most basic, every player gets two cards (that only they can see), followed by three community cards (the flop), another community card (the turn) and finally a fifth community card (the river). There are betting rounds between each deal, and at the end the best 5 card poker hand (out of the seven total cards) wins.

Tournaments vs. Cash Games: Cash games involve sitting down at a poker table with a certain amount of money, and playing with that money. If you lose your money, add more. If you want to leave, leave.

A tournament, by contrast, does not use “real money”. You pay an entry fee, and are given a certain amount of chips. You then play until you either lose all your chips, or have everybody’s. The prize money is distributed based on where you are eliminated – 1st place wins a lot, last place wins nothing. Generally 10% of the field receive some share of the prize money.

Blinds / Antes: To “force some action”, every hand has some mandatory money added to the pot. The big blind (BB), the small blind (SB), and the Ante. As time goes on, the amount of the blinds increases. This ensures a tournament comes to an end at some point. When you see me describe a level as 1000/2000/100, I’m saying that the SB is 1000, BB is 2000 and the antes are 100.

The Bubble: A point in a tournament where there are few people left before a major milestone. The next person out, for example, will be the last person who doesn’t get paid. Or with the next elimination the final table (FT) will be created. To Bubble a tournament means that you were the unfortunate person who was eliminated in that spot.

Position: Position is very important in poker, as it dictates how much information you have before acting. Being in early position means that you act before others, with less information. Late position is beneficial to you in a hand.

Some random acronyms you may see in my updates:

ITM: In the money. This means the bubble has burst and the remaining people get paid. I hope to use this one frequently.

Runner Runner: When two consecutive cards come on the turn and river (that build on each other) to win the pot.

Go All-In: When you bet all of your chips. Also known as pushing or shoving.

Busto: To go bust – be eliminated from a tourney. But for one person in each tourney, this will happen.

Obviously there are a million intricacies to poker, and I’m sure that non-players will still be confused by some of my updates, but I’m hopeful that this will help you (dad) understand some of my updates.

Daily $200 Deep Stacks Tourneys at the Rio

WSOP just announced that, in order to compete with "other" casinos, they are going to be running daily $200 tourneys at 1:00pm with 15,000 stacks, 30 min levels, starting at 25-50.

This is great - I've been struggling with how to come up with a $4,000 buyin budget for my week - either I was going to play only one WSOP event, and come in under 4k, or I'd be playing two and go over / take some days off.

Assuming the full structure / rake is good and my backers don't object, I'll add them to my mix and my schedule will look something like this:

Tuesday - Arrive
Wednesday - Venetian $350
Thursday - WSOP $200 Deep Stack Daily
Friday - WSOP $1,500
Saturday - Venetian $350
Sunday - WSOP $1,000
Monday - Venetian $350
Tuesday - WSOP $200 Deep Stack Daily
Wednesday - play some cash, relax, then leave at night.

That comes out to $3,950 - right on budget.
